Abdul Latif Jameel Health and Bader Sultan & Brothers Co. W.L.L. (BSBC) have announced a new collaboration for the distribution of Butterfly Network’s innovative Butterfly iQ+ ultrasound solution in Kuwait. Established in 2020 and backed by Abdul Latif Jameel, Abdul Latif Jameel Health is committed to accelerating health inclusivity across the Global South, while Bader Sultan & Brothers Co., established in 1960, is a leading provider of pharmaceutical, medical device distribution and integrated healthcare solutions driving quality of healthcare delivery in Kuwait.
Kuwait has a well-developed healthcare system, with a government commitment to providing citizens and residents access to high-quality medical care and treatment. According to a report by the World Health Organization, Kuwait’s government spends over 6% of its GDP on healthcare – one of the highest in the world. The country also has a high number of hospitals and healthcare facilities, with over 60 hospitals and more than 1,000 primary healthcare centers, serving a population of around 4.27m.
The Butterfly iQ+ is an innovative solution that brings the power of ultrasound to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment processes. As the world’s first single-probe, whole-body handheld ultrasound solution, it has the potential to transform healthcare by making medical imaging accessible to underserved communities around the world. As part of the partnership, Bader Sultan & Brothers Co. will begin commercial sales in mid-2023, bringing the technology to a potential 11,000 medical doctors practicing in public and private hospitals and facilities across the country. This will expand the capabilities of practitioners working both within and outside primary care units, accelerating access to modern medical care for those who need it most.
The Butterfly iQ+ is a portable,whole-body ultrasound solution that utilizes proprietary Ultrasound-on-ChipTM technology for a wide range of uses in a single device. It is used with compatible iOS and Android smart devices, comes with a battery pack, wireless charging, customized app software, and AI support, and has over 20 default presets.
